Domaine de Coyeux
The Domaine de Coyeux lies in the beautiful village Beaumes-de-Venise in Northern Rhône, in the heart of the famous rocky “Dentelles de Montmirail” that dominates the landscape. This area produces so characterful red Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages wines that it has received its own appellation. However, the fame of the region comes mostly from Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise, “Nectar of the Popes”, that for nearly a decade overshadowed even sweet whites from Bordeaux and Germany. Domaine de Coyeux belongs to Yves and Catherine Nativelle since 1976 and is one of the largest private domaines in Beaumes-de-Venise. The estate produces Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise, Beaumes-de-Venise Rouge and Gigondas - three of the rare “Cru” of the Côtes-du-Rhône. The location of the vineyards itself provides extremely healthy growing conditions for the vines. The vineyards are located on the highest muscat slopes within the appellation; entirely on the Trias of the Massif Montmirail. The soil here is deep and reach in oligo elements. Mistral slows down the maturation of the grapes, which is particularly appreciated by Muscat and Mourvedre. This is why the intervention in wine making process in kept to the minimum.
